FLORA AND FAUNA

Fish fauna, except for some species, did not change over the centuries: river-water is rich with chub, carp, roach, bleak, eels, crucians, barbel, luce and tench.
Sheat-fish was introduced into the river by chance some years ago and it still lives there. It is a danger because, owing to its voracity, it kills the local fish fauna. It is a big fish that can weigh as much as one quintal.
In the past there was an extraordinary fauna: little egrets built their nests, and there were many types of ducks. Today you can see wild ducks, kingfishers, herons, cormorants that eat fish in large quantity, and other birds.
Hares and braces of pheasant, nutrias and common rats inhabit the river banks.
The most widespread types of trees along the river banks are poplars, alders, willows and locust-trees.
